Becoming a Love & Logic Parent

(any age children)

 

Parenting Teens With Love & Logic

(preteen/teens)

  • Each of the above classes is one night for five weeks.

  • The cost is $42 per participant (includes a manual & other materials)

  • There is no charge for previous participants.

  • Scholarships are available for those who live within Lee's Summit school district boundaries.

Child Care

Child Care is available at some five week classes for $5 per child per meeting.  Max $10 per evening per family. Pre-registration is required.

Becoming a Love & Logic Parent

Love and Logic is a parenting workshop designed by the Cline Fay Institute and facilitated by Lee’s Summit CARES. The program provides parents and caregivers with practical and proven strategies for preventing and reducing behavior problems in children and youth. Lee’s Summit CARES offers the program ten times annually through a collaborative effort with the Lee’s Summit School District and ReDiscover.  Parents can chose from three program formats depending upon the age of their child. The early childhood program is for use with young children 0-6 years, there is a general program for any age child/youth and a new format for parents of teens. 

What is Love & Logic?

Love & Logic's goal is to provide practical strategies for:
  • Preventing or reducing behavior problems,
  • Increasing motivation, and
  • Building assets that contribute to life-long responsibility and resiliency.

The core concept of Love & Logic is that success for children of all ages rests on a balance of unconditional compassion, firm behavioral limits and natural consequences.

How Does It Work?

Love & Logic is based on four principles that are designed to reduce conflict and strengthen relationships:

  1. Helping kids feel good about themselves.

  2. The child is always left feeling he/she has some control.

  3. Adults learn to discipline with equal shares of empathy and consequence.

  4. The child is required to do more thinking than the adult.

Parent University is approved for clock hour credit to childcare providers through the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.
