Lee’s Summit CARES is proud to announce that the 21st Annual Mayor’s Character Breakfast will be held on January 16th, 2025.

The Mayor’s Character Breakfast is a celebration of the people in our community who are found to have exceptional character traits and make our community a community of character.

The Mayor’s Character Breakfast is an annual fundraising event for Lees Summit CARES. Funds raised are used to support our efforts in the prevention work we do with youth and families in Lee’s Summit.

We Present Reflections of Character Awards

Each year we present awards to those in our community who have exceptional character.  Honorees are nominated by their peers. We encourage community members to submit nominations now!

Reflections of Character Nominations

Recipients of the Reflections of Character award are nominated by their peers. Nominations are carefully reviewed and scored by a committee to arrive at the most deserving of our residents. 

Awards for the 12 Character Traits

There are 12 award categories. Each of the Character Awards represents one of the 12 character traits. Who do you know that has Exceptional Character?

  • Appreciation
  • Citizenship
  • Cooperation
  • Courage
  • Family
  • Honesty
  • Kindness
  • Perseverance
  • Respect
  • Responsibility
  • Self-Control
  • Sportsmanship

Awards for:

The Ethics in Business Award | Who do you know that exemplifies significant ethics in their professional and personal relationships? 

The Lifetime Achievement Award | Who do you know that has worked to promote an idea in our community for at least 5 years? Let us know why you nominated them for their achievement.

We will also be honoring community members.

 

Guidelines for Nominations

These awards are based on nominations that come from YOU!  If the person you nominate is selected you will be given one seat at the breakfast to witness the award being presented to your nominee. 1) The nominee must be a Lee’s Summit resident, 2) The nominee must have worked on their achievement for at least 5 years.

 

Nominator must be able to describe:

  • The nominee’s ability to advance an idea
  • The nominee’s service to Lee’s Summit
  • The nominee’s significant and sustained contribution to Lee’s Summit
  • How the nominee’s contribution demonstrates Leadership, Vision and Commitment

Join the Character Council

COMMITTEE PURPOSE:

To promote and develop the annual Mayor’s Character Breakfast.

THEIR WORK INCLUDES:

  • Evaluating and reviewing the 12 character nominees annually
  • Identifying the Keynote Speaker
  • Setting the general tone and theme for the Breakfast
COMMITTEE MEETING SCHEDULE:

    • When: 3rd Wednesday of each Month
    • Time: 10:00 -11:00 am
    • Where: Security Bank, 210 SW Main Street, Lee’s Summit, MO
    • The Mayor’s Character Breakfast is on the 4th Thursday in January each year.

August 22: 9:00am – 10:00am
September 26: 9:00am – 10:00am
October 24: 9:00am – 10:00am
November 21: 9:00am – 10:00am
December 12: 9:00am – 10:00am
