Businesses of Character

PREVENTION THROUGH POSSIBILITIES

The Focus of LSCares Businesses of Character

The Purpose of the LSCares Businesses of Character is to partner with various businesses and organizations to support our youth through clear pathways. Our goal is to work together to provide youth resources and opportunities to make informed decisions about their academic and professional future.

We know that exposure to opportunities such as internships, job shadowing, and scholarships is a way to support the prevention of risky behaviors. Through galvanizing our resources we can work together to help teens transition to become upstanding citizens by connecting with those who are already there.

Being part of the Businesses of Character gives you an opportunity to:

1. Become a part of this community-wide effort.
This initiative has been adopted in schools, families, recreation, media, city, health, business, safety and the faith community.
Each sector has taken on the responsibility of reflecting positive character in ingenious ways.
– Become a part of something powerful.
– Become inspired.
– Dream about what you can do to reflect and model good
character.

2. Openly share values with all members of your organization and other organizations with which you do business.
Be a part of a community of businesses that joins together to model good business practice by emulating positive character. The Businesses of Character will share ways to reflect and model positive character traits. They will give you opportunities to let your character shine

3. Be a part of a healthy organization. It is important for employees to be proud of where they work.

When character becomes the core of business practice and accepted throughout the organization, new leaders emerge. Employees become excited to come to work. They become creative, loyal and dependable as they practice the values reflected.

Each Quarter, we will have a different focus point for businesses to support.

Quarter 1: The Mayor’s Character Breakfast

The Mayor’s Character Breakfast is a celebration of the people in our community who are found to have exceptional character traits and make our community a community of character.

The Mayor’s Character Breakfast is an annual fundraising event for Lees Summit CARES. Funds raised are used to support our efforts in the prevention work we do with youth and families in Lee’s Summit.

Quarter 2: Senior Send-Off

Senior Send-Off Is a way for us to celebrate high school graduates and support them through resources, networking opportunities, and our annual scholarship. This event is through our T.A.G. program that uses our Prevention-Focused Curriculum.

The Teen Advocacy Group (TAG) comprises eighth-grade and high school students from the Lee’s Summit area who are empowered to provide activities and advocacy to promote a healthy and youth-friendly community.

Quarter 3: Summer Internships & Business Tours

By partnering with leading local businesses, we offer students unique insights into various industries through exclusive tours and hands-on learning experiences. This initiative not only exposes students to real-world career opportunities but also opens the door for talented individuals to secure internships.

Our goal is to foster a robust pipeline from schools to the local workforce, nurturing a thriving and healthy community by empowering our youth with the skills and opportunities they need to succeed. Join us this summer to explore potential career paths, connect with industry leaders, and possibly kick-start your professional journey through an internship.

QUARTER 4: Friends-Giving Mixer

An uplifting community event where teens, community leaders, and Lee’s Summit CARES come together to celebrate the achievements of our T.A.G. Alumni returning from college. This festive gathering is more than just a reunion; it’s a chance to give back, as we collect canned goods and resources for those in need.

We also promote and celebrate the positive character traits that define our community and the young individuals shaping our future. Don’t miss this opportunity to connect, contribute, and celebrate the spirit of giving and gratitude. Let’s make this Friends-Giving a memorable one, filled with joy, generosity, and shared accomplishments.
